What a kewl day. We were invited to my friend Alice's renfaire wedding at the Maryland Renaissance Faire.
We had no idea where we were going, but we headed up i95 and tried to follow Alice's directions. Yes we got lost. But thanks to a map we did find our way to the fair grounds.

The day was beautiful until we arrived. It started raining, heavy at times and just kept on coming down. We arrived in time to see the opening gate ceremonies. About 90% of the people were dressed up in costume. This was the first trip for all of us to a faire, so we were clad as simple modern naives. Out of the crowd there arose a clatter and a large well dressed man began addressing the guards who looked down upon the crowd from atop the great gate. We quickly learned it was the King of England arriving with a visit to this quaint village. Upon hearing the announcement that the king has arrived, the guards quickly opened the gate and all who were assembled entered this place of merriment.

We found the chapel for the wedding, and awaited the arrival of the bridal party. Next to the chapel, and perhaps fittingly so, stands several prisoner contraptions. Young Aidan couldn't reset trying one out of course.

Finally the groom arrived and we quickly found a seat. We saw the festivities and as requested, snapped many a picture for the wedding album. It was a lovely service, Alice was beautiful, Alan was handsome and now where's the food, cake and beer?

After the reception we walked around the fair grounds and immersed ourselves in the merriment. We decided we both want to renfaire. Families that stay together, play together. So this is going to be our thing. We're going to be renfaire people. And it's all Alice's fault!

Back to the Maryland RenFaire and shopping. We were on a mission to find our renfaire garb. And we certainly did.
I found a really nice gold dress with all the trimmings at Q Heart II - Clothier on Valley Meade lane. And a couple of perfectly matched under-skirts at Bullseye on White Stag Grove.

Gary found his Great Kilt at Wolfstone Kilts on Meadow Lane. This is the sister company to Potomac Leather Company where we were sent for our belts on Stub Toe Lane. What's a kilt with boots? Well we found those at Son of Sandlar on White Stag Grove too.

Aidan's costume was the hardest part to find. Thankfully I'm good at searching the internet and found his costume at Extreme Halloween.

With bags in tow we spent some time having lunch on White Stag Grove. Food and drink just happen to be across the lane from where my friend Alice and Alan work at the Woodbutchery. What is a visit to the faire if you don't stop and say hi to the newly weds? If you'd like to visit the Maryland Renfaire, you should check out their site. You'll find a list of vendors and their locations on their site as well.

Boy did we spend some money today. But we sure had fun! And we're ready for the next round of merrymaking in our new costumes for our new lifetime hobby! Thanks a lot Alice!
